There are several reasons why you might need to do research on skydiving. You might be doing a report or paper on the subject. Maybe you are a writer preparing an article. Or just maybe you are considering going skydiving yourself and want to learn as much as you can about the sport before taking the plunge. Regardless of why you need to do this research, you will find all the resources you need right on the Internet. With a little smart searching you can locate plenty of sites dedicated to this adrenaline pumping activity.

One part of researching the subject of skydiving is learning more about the history of this sport. Even though parachutes are thought to go as far back as 1100 A.D., the first documented skydiver was a Frenchman named André-Jacques Garnerin. Garnerin jumped from a hot air balloon in 1797 using a parachute and survived the attempt. After that, he made repeated other jumps in various parts of England and France. From there, the sport gained popularity and evolved a great deal before becoming as it is today. Sky diving today is safer than it's ever been before thanks to innovations in technique as well as technology.

Another aspect of researching this subject is finding out about the equipment that is used. There are actually two parachutes that are deployed as well as a reserve parachute that is used in case the main parachute does not open. The AAD, or automatic activation device, is an important safety feature of today's sky diving setups. The AAD will deploy the main chute if for some reason the skydiver does not do so within an appropriate amount of time. Other pieces of required gear include the helmet with eye protection and jumpsuit.

Of course, perhaps the best way to do research on skydiving is to actually go skydiving. There are instructional schools located all around the United States. If you are jumping for the first time, it's likely you'll do what is known as a tandem jump which means you are attached to your instructor for safety. There are also simulators and indoor skydiving centers where you can get the sensation of skydiving without actually doing it. For anyone unsure about whether or not they want to go skydiving, these simulators can help you make up your mind by giving a taste of the experience.
