Where to Find Information on Skydiving
![]() |
Anyone thinking about skydiving for the first time should definitely find as much information on skydiving as they can. Luckily, there are plenty of resources available, and a great deal of them can be accessed right on the Internet. You will find many sites for sky diving classes around the world, which often contain lots of information about the sport. Believe it or not, skydiving is indeed a sport and there are competitive teams. Georgia Tech even has their own competitive parachute club. Even if you're not looking to get that serious about skydiving, reading more about it can help you prepare for your first jump.
The first thing you'll need to learn about is your safety equipment. The parachute is the most important part, of course. The average parachute is square in shape and features not only a main chute but a reserve chute. The reserve chute is a safety precaution to be used in the event of main chute failure. Another thing you'll need to learn about is the AAD or automatic activation device. This device will open your parachute if you are unable to do so. It is an important part of skydiving safely. You will also need a good helmet with eye protection and an appropriate jumpsuit. You can find out more about this equipment on many sites that offer it for sale.
In addition to web sites that offer content about sky diving, you can also learn more about the sport by watching footage of actual jumps. Many people use a special camera which captures the event. These cameras are used as part of the headgear. By watching a jump from start to finish you will get a much better idea of what it's like. Reading about skydiving can only take you so far. Eventually, of course, you will be ready for your first jump but in the meantime educating yourself is a wise idea.
The best place to get information on skydiving is of course from a certified and experienced skydiving instructor. There are schools located all over the globe that offer classes for beginners through advanced jumpers. Tandem jumping is what most first time sky divers go for. More experienced jumpers do static line jumps or even the accelerated free fall, which involves jumping from a higher altitude and falling for a longer period of time.
